Speech Sound Picture Reveal Games

This Picture Reveal Game is designed to keep children motivated while creating multiple opportunities to hear and produce their target sound. As the image gradually appears, children listen, guess, and describe — naturally increasing sound exposure and practice at the word, phrase, or sentence level.

How to Play

  • Begin the game and a picture will slowly reveal over 20 seconds.

  • The child watches the picture as it reveals. When they think they know what the image is, they click the on-screen buzzer, or say their guess aloud if mouse/touch access isn’t available. If the child is responding verbally without mouse/touch access, the therapist can press the buzzer for them.

  • Two answer choices will appear, and both include the target sound. The child says which option matches the picture they believe is being revealed (providing another opportunity for sound practice). After selecting an answer, the game shows whether the guess was correct.

  • Press ‘continue’ to reveal the full picture. This provides another opportunity for additional practice while discussing the image. e.g. describe the image, practicing phrases or sentences about the image, e.g. brown cow, big cow, the cow is in a field etc.

  • Press Continue again to move to the next image (after a 3-second countdown).

Scoring & Motivation

  • Faster guesses = more points (score shown top-right corner).

  • Great for repeated trials as you play again. (Can you beat your previous score?)

  • The images shuffle each round automatically to keep the replayability high.
  • Children often improve speed as they become familiar with pictures, giving them an opportunity to increase their score while getting in more trials.

Additional Note

  • Avoid using the leaderboard option if confidentiality is a factor.
